Family of Bloggers Award

Many thanks to David Kanigan for nominating me for the “Family of Bloggers Award” http://davidkanigan.com/2012/10/06/1-year-and-counting/. David entertains his fellow bloggers daily with his insightful and inspiring words at Lead.Learn.Live. My particular favourites are his posts containing amusing observations about human behaviour, with accompanying colourful charts, graphs, photographs, cartoons, or videos.

The rules of the Award

  1. To thank the person who nominated you.
  2. To provide a link to their blog.
  3. Using the anagram of the word ‘FAMILY’ tell us the attributes you bring to the family of bloggers.
  4. Nominate at least 4 other people to join your family of bloggers, and let them know about their nomination.

The Anagram

  • Fun
  • Apostrophes (upholding their right to exist and their correct usage)
  • Melody
  • Impishness
  • Love (of the universal platonic variety)
  • Youthfulness (meaning, still striving for originality or new ways to express old ideas)

The sunshine award: yay, I’m basking in its rays :-)

Thank you so much, Christy, for nominating me for the happy, smiley Sunshine Blogger Award. Christy is a freelance writer and poet whose words radiate warmth, so do check out her blog — especially her special sunshine post at http://poeticparfait.com/2012/09/08/sunshine-for-saturday/#more-1599

The Sunshine Blogger Award is customarily bestowed upon bloggers whose positivity and creativity inspire others — a thing to be valued most highly in a world dominated by negative and destructive reportage.

The rules of the award are as follows:

  1. Post the sunshine award logo.
  2. Thank the person who nominated you.
  3. Answer the eight set questions (as listed below).
  4. Hand out awards to other sunny bloggers.
  5. Link to sites of nominees and leave comments to notify them of their awards.

The questions and my answers:

  1. What’s your favourite Christmas movie?  “The Snowman” (based on the children’s book by Raymond Briggs).
  2. What’s your favourite flower? This one is so difficult; I just love flowers. Give me a summer herbaceous border or a meadow filled with wildflowers and I’m floating. But if I must choose, it’s wild climbing roses, followed by tulips, cowslips, and cornflowers.
  3. What’s your favourite non-alcoholic beverage? Freshly filtered water.
  4. What’s your favourite passion? I don’t get too passionate about anything, as I think that passion can have a flip side, which is intolerance, anger, hatred, and an unwillingness to consider other people’s viewpoints. There are things I care about deeply, such as truth, justice, peace, environmental sustainability, and family life.
  5. What’s your favourite time of year? Late summer, through to early autumn.
  6. What’s your favourite time of day 5-5.30 p.m. which is when I chill out with my family in comfy chairs to share a pot of tea and homemade cake, and discuss what sort of day we’ve had.
  7. What’s your favourite physical activity? Walking around beautiful gardens with plenty of rustic benches for rest breaks.
  8. What’s your favourite vacationI’ve not been on holiday for twenty years, but, if I could, it would involve peace, quiet, and wild landscapes of the Celtic or Nordic variety, or a pilgrimage to a remote shrine.

And now for my sunshine bloggers 🙂

Back to reality, the truth…

Fellow blogger, David Kanigan, who is a great inspiration to me and a huge number of others, has kindly nominated me for THE BOOKER AWARD. After you’ve read this post, please do check out  http://davidkanigan.com/2012/09/01/books-books-books/#respond

The Rules of this award are as follows:

1. Nominate other blogs, as many as you want but 5-10 is always a good suggestion. Don’t forget to let your recipients know.

2. Post the Booker Award picture.

3. Share your top 5 books of all time.

As a bookworm who reads at least thirty novels a year, I found choosing my five top books extremely challenging, so I cheated and threw in two trilogies as extras–my literary equivalents of after-dinner chocolates. I’ve based my choices upon which books I’ve loved so much that I didn’t want them to end.

Top Five Novels

  1. Far from the Madding CrowdThomas Hardy (classic fiction)
  2. The Stand – Stephen King (horror)
  3. No Name – Wilkie Collins (Victorian Sensation Novel – precursor to Detective genre)
  4. Advent – James Treadwell (fantasy)
  5. Dances with Wolves – Michael Blake (general fiction) *

Top Two Trilogies

  1. Millennium Trilogy – Stieg Larsson (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl who Played with Fire, and The Girl who Kicked over the Hornet’s Nest)
  2. His Dark Materials TrilogyPhilip Pullman (Northern Lights, The Subtle Knife, and The Amber Spyglass) (Fantasy)

* Poor old Michael Blake never gets a mention, but, for those who don’t know, the film “Dances with Wolves” is based on a beautiful novel written by one of Kevin Costner‘s friends.

Blogging Award Number Three

My love and thanks to adollyciousirony for honouring me with this award xoxo. Dolly is such a vibrant superwoman, as you’ll see from http://allaboutlemon.com/2012/07/23/you-are-loved-day-and-two-awards/#respond

The rules of the award are to tell people 7 things about yourself, hitherto not mentioned on your blog.

  1. Algebra is a complete mystery to me, meaning I failed my 11-plus, but I know my times tables back to front.
  2. When I was sixteen, someone asked me out who went on to become a famous actor. I turned him down because he was shorter than me and I fancied his brother more. No names mentioned here.
  3. I used to attend pop concerts with my mum. Sometimes we climbed on our seats and screamed, she in her white jeans and me in my miniskirt. We went to watch such legends as Jimmy Hendrix, Pink Floyd, and Genesis.
  4. When a lorry wrote off my Cherokee jeep, my son and I climbed out of it without a scratch, and my old dog slept through the episode. She might have opened one eye as our vehicle was propelled down the road attached to the lorry’s bumper, but she’d already experienced fourteen years of my eccentric behaviour, so probably thought it was just a new game. I’ve been scared of lorries ever since.
  5. I’m a Birkenstock-wearing, eco-green granny.
  6. My hair is a foolproof weather-forecasting instrument. Shining peace for sun. Frizzing insanity for rain.
  7. I hate fireworks, Auld Lang Syne, and crowds (despite my love of rock concerts as a teenager).

And here are my seven nominations for the “Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award”, given in appreciation of their eloquence, sensitivity, and power to move the emotions.

P.S. Is there a “Brotherhood of the World Bloggers Award”, as there are some great males worthy of such an accolade on WordPress?

Inspiring Blog Award

The rules:

Thank the person who nominated you.

Warmest thanks too http://auroramorealist.wordpress.com/2012/05/18/blog-award-may-2012/ for nominating me for this award. I also wish to say thank you for her blog, which is truly inspirational in the way she bares her soul with honesty and bravery.

Tell 7 things about you that will not come up in your blog entries:

  1. Back in the old days, after leaving my daughter at primary school, on three consecutive mornings I got together with my friend from next door to watch the ‘Planet of the Apes’ films on my 14″ black and white telly. During each session, the pair of us ate our way through an entire treacle tart.
  2. I get really angry if anyone mentions insects whilst I’m eating.
  3. I share the same birthday as my husband, although he was born ten years before me.
  4. porcelain dolls and mannequin dolls give me the creeps.
  5. I’m allergic to make-up and only use organic beauty products.
  6. Cats make me itch and sneeze, but they always want to sit on my lap in other people’s houses.
  7. Nordic crime books, films, and telly series fascinate me.

Pass the award on to seven other bloggers that inspire you.
