Lovely photo Sarah, very evocative of a chilly winter’s morning…

Not too chilly, fortunately, in the upstairs bathroom where that picture was taken, unlike the shower-room downstairs that never gets any sun and doesn’t have any heating. Very bracing in there. Wakes me up, though, whereas the sun makes me a bit dreamy like a basking lizard!

Very pretty photo, Sarah. I love the pot, too. We have a succulent (or two?) basking in the sun of our east-facing window.

Thank you, Leigh:-) I’m rather fond of that pot. I’ve lots of succulents and cacti scattered around my house, as they seem to survive hardier winter temperatures than more dainty houseplants. I like to set the heating to 16 degrees C at the highest and wear lots of jumpers, as too much heat makes me drowsy and it’s environmentally irresponsible. Mister complains that I’m trying to kill him!

Wow, 60-ish degrees is really impressive. We try to do the same, but we are less ambitious. I think it’s set for 67 (sometimes lower) at night, because we like it chillier, and 69 for the daytime. I’m (quite) cold-natured, so I can’t handle it at 65-67 inside. Running is a different story, but of course I don’t run inside my house all day long (though it sometimes feels like it). I’d love to see all the environmental measures you have taken sometime. Our family’s crowning achievement is probably on the “reuse” and “recycle” part of the Rs equation, as well as reduce (e.g., meat consumption, overall trash, composting). Well, gotta go. The kid would like some attention now. 🙂

I’m coldish by nature, being a little underweight but thermal vests and long johns (or janes, as they’re now called) do me proud in saving on heating bills. Also, since I’ve taken magnesium supplements, for some reason I don’t feel the cold so much — no longer getting numb white fingers. With regards to environmental measures, I’m more into them than Mister, but I think that’s a generational things, as he’s older than me. I recycle what I can and try to eat as much organic food as possible within a tight budget.

Thank you, Sylvia 🙂 I love the way winter sun creeps around darkened corners and surprises one with little patches of gold. If I’d been a cat, I might have curled up for a little nap next to those flower pots on the window sill.

Thank you, Naomi 🙂 It was one of those brief photographic opportunities that was a one-off, as I’d never seen the early morning sun shining at that exact angle through this particular window in the ten years I’ve lived in our present house.
