I did think of that. I could design you a Novel Writing Summer logo if you want to do it at the same time as us, then you can sit outside wearing a big hat and write the old-fashioned way with a pen and paper 😉

Heavens!!
While a very “novel” idea I don’t know if I would have the fortitude to actually write a novel – be it on paper or otherwise. Can you imagine how bulging my arm muscles will be if I wrote 50000 words. By hand. In three months!! I’ll have to be come ambidextrous – just to match the 2 up 😉
Then again, it is, for me, a very ambitious prospect, something I’ve started doing time and again. Maybe I should give it yet another try – don’t have anything to lose, do I…

I know what you mean about hand cramp from writing with a pen. Years ago, when I was 7-mths pregnant, I sat my hospital nursing finals. Not only did I have difficulty reaching the desk with my bump in the way, but I got the most terrible wrist ache. Despite this, I managed to achieve the top marks out of my group–so there you are, hand cramps needn’t get in the way of achievement 😉

You’re right. a little discomfort is only a minor setback when doing something worthy.
I calculated now – if I write 555 words per day I can make it in the three months.
Maybe I should actually give this a try.
Have no idea what I would write about though!!!

Maybe start with an interesting character, stick them in a challenging situation, and let them lead you. Not everybody does intricate plotting.
What do you like to read? This will probably provide you with the clue to what type of novel you’d enjoy writing. That being said, I love reading Nordic Crime Fiction, but I’m English (with only a small bit of Norwegian blood in me) so I’m not going to give that a try.
Actually, I think I’m going to be daring and write something completely different from usual and go for literary slipstream — an area I’d possibly find difficult to read if someone else wrote it.

Hmmm, what do I like to read. Yes well, that ranges from whodunnits to Terry Pratchett with a dose of Patricia Cornwell and Stephen King thrown in for good measure!!
Suppose it will be some kind of love story – since it’s something I’ve actually experienced 😉
I’ll jot down a few ideas and see if I can get some kind of plot going before i start writing.

I love this idea. I have finally given up on the 400 years between stars novel. I have exhausted all the sensible markets. And the only remainders seem to be asking me upfront for money. I am not sure what to do with it. I may turn it into a blog serial. But that is off topic – I do like this idea. I think I am going to revisit the Mycad Knife file. I have some very in depth character studies and a full scene by scene breakdown showing whose pov I am following. What I need to do is sit in a warm place with a comfy keyboard and bash away until I make a first draft.

At least you won’t be distracted by the internet on a daily basis! During NWW, I’m going to have to adhere to the rule of no internet until I’ve done at least 3 hours’ writing.
