Remembrance Day: They Shall Grow Not Old

With rue my heart is laden
For golden friends I had,
For many a rose-lipt maiden
And many a lightfoot lad.

By brooks too broad for leaping
The lightfoot boys are laid;
The rose-lipt girls are sleeping
In fields where roses fade.

Words: A.E. Houseman (1859-1936) – A poem from The Shropshire Lad

Music: George Butterworth (1885-1916) who died in the Battle of the Somme and received the Military Cross for his bravery.

Sunlight through stained glass:
names of the war dead dappled
in crimson and gold.
