Where aged tombstones lean, do you feel the weight of my presence? Where lichen crusts my face, do you imagine I was ever young? Where storms erase my name, do you fear your future oblivion? Where willow fronds cloak me, do you sense I am finally at peace?
I am the beating heart of a tree. I am the life oxygen you breathe. I am your past, present, and future. I am your responsibility.

Dear Sarah,
As Pogo said so many years ago, “We have seen the enemy and he is us.”
Good to see you posting.
I’m closing in on the end of Twicers. Loving it!
Well I am thrilled to see you writing again, my friend. A sad and disturbing subject matter, but we have no one to blame but ourselves. Raising awareness certainly helps, and this is a strong message. Social change takes time. Hopefully we have time left and the change will happen sooner rather than later.
Dear Bill, I know my blog is meant to be an uplifting place for people to visit and I promise to make my next post bring a smile to your face 🙂 I’m rather obsessing about climate change at the moment, but can’t change the world overnight on my own. I have been making adjustments towards greener ways in my own little corner, especially with regard to what I buy. Maybe from time to time I should share some positive tips in this area that people might find of interest. That would be much more helpful than moaning, I’m sure 😉
Peace, love, and blessings to you, too, my friend.
Thank you, Dale 🙂 My muse compelled me to write, when I thought she’d deserted me.
It was lovely talking to you and Rochelle the other day. Maybe your vibrancy sparked me to start writing again, though it be a sombre subject on this occasion!
Thank you, dear Andrea 🙂 I like that word “elegiac”. Sorry I’ve been so long in responding to your comment. Life has overtaken me, yet again. Disruption to my energy levels and creative flow has been the story of 2019, which means I’ve also been neglectful of my my most loyal blogging friends. I’ll try to do better in 2020.
Thank you, dear Andrea. 2020. A new decade, and a new start. I hope it brings good things and a new resolve in me to succeed (2019 will go down as a glitch of a year, although not all bad). Wishing you all the best. Sarah x
As I said, not weird, but super talented and yes, I absolutely love Mister’s photo with its ominous effects. And your tanka…powerfully thought-provoking, stunning. Andrea above said it perfectly and better than I. Good to read here of the return of your muse so that we who love your blog and writing can once again read the heart-stirring result. Much Love & hugs, dearest Sarah xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Dearest Sherri, here I am again 3 weeks later on Boxing Day. So much for the reawakening of my muse! I’m thrilled you loved Mister’s photo and my tanka. I do hope you had a wonderful calm Christmas, full of joy. I loved your Christmas card 🙂 Thank you, so much, for all your words of encouragement re my blog and my writing. Much appreciated. Lots of love, hugs and kisses xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Dearest Sarah, and now Boxing Day seems so long ago, doesn’t it? Where did Christmas go? We had a lovely time, thank you, and hope you did too. Thank you too for your delightful Christmas card, you know just what I love, gorgeous Christmas fox 🙂 ❤ Hubby back at work now and I am making a tentative return here (laptop woes notwithstanding) and loved reading all your delightful comments to cheer my day. I will always encourage you as you do me, my lovely friend. We'll keep going, upward and onward, and so it shall be! Here's to a successful and productive writing 2020 for us both! Lots of love, hugs and kisses xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
It is hard to know where to start, Cybele. One small step at a time, that’s all most of us can do. It makes my head spin often, just thinking about the monumental task ahead. If only life came with a reset button!
Most of the time I feel overwhelmed by the whole eco crisis and where even to begin. I guess a good starting place is the power of the pen. my purchasing choices, and growing my own organic fruit and vegables.

I love when your muse compels you.
And if I helped spark it, then so be it, no matter how sombre the subject! You did it beautifully. 🙂
