IF FLOWERS COULD TALK
“Happiness is living outdoors, enjoying the sun and rain.”
“How about the wind ripping off your petals, too?”
“Who’s a sarky, short-ass bunch?”
“So would you be, if someone had cut you down to quarter size and jammed you in a vase.”
“We assure you it’s just as painful for us.”
“At least you can see out the window.”
“Your water stinks.”
“Ditto.”
“Let’s have a competition to see who wilts last.”
“They’d better give us dignified disposals.”
“Hell, we don’t want cremation by bonfire.”
“Better than rotting slowly amid stinky refuse.”
“The compost heap, that’s the way to go.”

Dear Sarah,
You had me at sarky, short-ass bunch. Very funny. Delightful floral arrangement of words. 😉

Dear Rochelle,
Hee-hee, glad you enjoyed it. I really enjoyed getting into those flowers’ petaled heads 🙂
All best wishes,

Ha ha. In that I often imagine cut flowers having a conversation just like this. xxxx

YOU, Sarah! A nicely written piece and funny to boot. Great!

If flowers could talk, indeed — I can just see an illicit lover giving a bunch of roses to a married woman and then those roses telling tales on her to her husband! So many potential scenarios…

You surely win the prize this week for the most unique take on the prompt. And such snarky comments! Now that we know how flowers sass each other, I’d like to know what they’d say about the humans around them. 😉

Thanks so much, Christine 🙂 I think that cut flowers probably have some unrepeatable words to say about what humans can do with their secateurs and scissors!

Watch a delicious (if not stinky) take on the prompt. They do say plants can hear and feel. Why not talk to one another?

Thanks, Alicia. I’m sure plants do communicate with each other, and I’m convinced that if you look at flowers admiringly often enough, they bloom much longer. My bright pink tuberous begonias have been showing off big-time for three months now and look set to show-off for many months to come, just because I smile at them a lot 🙂

Oh Sarah, you do see the world differently and in a refreshing way. Have you ever wondered what roses think? They’re probably royally snobbish compared to wild daisies who I see as the hippies of the flower world. Fun read.

Seeing the world differently used to get me into trouble at school, but not now! I love what you said about roses and wild daisies, Tracey. It made me smile 🙂

I never cut flowers from my garden. Very refreshing take to look at it from the flowers POV.

No, I don’t cut flowers from my garden either. Obviously if someone gives me a bunch of flowers, then I will nurture them as best I can. At the moment, I have a splendid bunch of sunflowers that a friend gave me several weeks ago. Every day I admire them, so they continue to look splendid and probably will do for a few weeks to come.

Very amusing Sarah, I rarely have cut flowers exactly because I imagine them having this sort of reaction!

Fun story but a bit testy those flowers. Are they feeling bouquet? If they are not careful someone might get them with a pistil.

Great fun, Sarah. I’ve often thought about the wood from a tree. Does it feel it served a great purpose if made into furniture? What if it’s tossed in the fire to warm a home? Is that preferred to decomposing naturally in the forest?

Thanks, Russel 🙂 Um, altruistic, self-sacrificing trees … that would be interesting. I certainly feel strongly that they’re treated with respect and not subject to unnecessary logging. The insects, beetles and birds are certainly the happiest, if the latter option of decomposition is chosen.
