Monday Morning #Haiku 197 & 198 — Grasshoppers (03/04)

Heat wave ~ all is hay.
Green grasshopper courts danger
on busy Lizzie.
#
Perched on pink petal,
grasshopper survives morning
thanks to lazy birds.

    1. Dear Rochelle,

      Thanks 🙂

My lawn is brown. The fields are brown. But the flowers are extra bright, the woodland extra green, and my lavender is a-buzz with honeybees and bumblebees. I am cynical of people who have exceedingly green lawns, as either it means their lawns are made of synthetic (environmentally unfriendly) grass, or they’re wasting water with a sprinkler during a drought. Either way, they’re numbskulls D:

      All best wishes,
      Sarah

      1. The fields and hills are all brown as well. It didn’t seem to deter the sheep I saw yesterday, busy munching away, dressed in their thick woollen fleeces. Did you know that the Vitamin D3 in supplements is extracted from sheep’s wool? (One of many random facts floating around in my head… )

  1. I’m a big fan of grasshoppers. Spent many hours of my youth catching them, holding, them, and releasing them. Not sure why I’ve always been fascinated by them, but there you have it.

And i”m a big fan of you and your haikus. The reason why is obvious: you are talented!

Wishing you a splendid Monday my dear friend.

    1. Grasshoppers are great. That particular grasshopper managed to survive the afternoon, too. It was only when my husband cast a shadow over it in the evening, that it finally hopped away. Must have thought he was a giant bird-of-prey!

Thank you for you sweet words of praise and encouragement, my dear friend.

You have a splendid Monday, too. It’s perfect here today. Bright sunshine and a pleasant breeze. What more could I ask for?

    1. Thank you, Shey 🙂 So much hay around here that the fire brigade had to douse some flames at the allotments, fortunately well away from our plot, so our produce hasn’t ended up barbecued! The birds are singing away in the cool of the woods today, except for the seagulls that are busy scrounging scraps off tourists down at the beach xxxxxxx

      1. Oh no. everything is crisped so that could have been nasty after all your work. Oh we have the gulls here too. They regularly tramp with hob nailed boots on our roof.

    1. Thank you, Dale 🙂 I think that grasshoppers trigger great memories of hot, lazy summer meadows in childhood for many people. Do you remember how long the summer break from school seemed in those days? Just endless. I spent most of every day outside from dawn until dusk.

  2. Oh dearest Sarah, I adore your new look, and what wonderful photos for your header, especially the one of you peering out through the leaves, but all are great shots. And this one for your witty and wonderful grasshopper haiku, is a stunning close up. Ha…yes, I get your profile perfectly 🙂 What a fantastic theme, perfect for you and your fantastic style 🙂 ❤ xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

    1. Dearest Sherri, thank you so much 🙂 I’m thrilled that you adore the new look for my blog. I will be getting around to those posts I mentioned to you about customising themes and making one’s blog load faster. Also, I’ll be posting about our wonderful meet-up soon, hopefully next week. I’m glad you enjoyed my grasshopper haiku, too. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

      2. I’ll let you know when I’ve done our meet-up post. Meanwhile, you might like my latest tanka. It took me hours to contemplate. The particular ruins featured there, are located at another one of my favourite walking places. They’re within easy reach for you when next visiting, so all I’ve got to find is a decent pub nearby for lunch, then, dearest Sherri, we’ll have another perfect day together 🙂 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

      3. Ruins, a walk and a decent pub nearby? That does sound perfect, to match the last perfect day together 🙂 I am intrigued, and will be over shortly to read, dearest Sarah, and I look forward to our meet-up post very much! 🙂 ❤ xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

    1. I haven’t seen the satellite pictures, but it doesn’t surprise me at all. As much as I love the dry weather, I’m worried about its impact on nature, especially those that normally inhabit marshlands and wetlands. I can remember long, hot summers in the past, but never ones that didn’t include frequent thunderstorms and downpours, too. It’s all a bit odd.
