Heat wave ~ all is hay.
Green grasshopper courts danger
on busy Lizzie.

      My lawn is brown. The fields are brown. But the flowers are extra bright, the woodland extra green, and my lavender is a-buzz with honeybees and bumblebees. I am cynical of people who have exceedingly green lawns, as either it means their lawns are made of synthetic (environmentally unfriendly) grass, or they’re wasting water with a sprinkler during a drought. Either way, they’re numbskulls D:

      2. The fields and hills are all brown as well. It didn’t seem to deter the sheep I saw yesterday, busy munching away, dressed in their thick woollen fleeces. Did you know that the Vitamin D3 in supplements is extracted from sheep’s wool? (One of many random facts floating around in my head… )

  2. I’m a big fan of grasshoppers. Spent many hours of my youth catching them, holding, them, and releasing them. Not sure why I’ve always been fascinated by them, but there you have it.

    And i”m a big fan of you and your haikus. The reason why is obvious: you are talented!

    1. Grasshoppers are great. That particular grasshopper managed to survive the afternoon, too. It was only when my husband cast a shadow over it in the evening, that it finally hopped away. Must have thought he was a giant bird-of-prey!

    1. Thank you, Shey 🙂 So much hay around here that the fire brigade had to douse some flames at the allotments, fortunately well away from our plot, so our produce hasn’t ended up barbecued! The birds are singing away in the cool of the woods today, except for the seagulls that are busy scrounging scraps off tourists down at the beach xxxxxxx

      1. Oh no. everything is crisped so that could have been nasty after all your work. Oh we have the gulls here too. They regularly tramp with hob nailed boots on our roof.

    1. Thank you, Dale 🙂 I think that grasshoppers trigger great memories of hot, lazy summer meadows in childhood for many people. Do you remember how long the summer break from school seemed in those days? Just endless. I spent most of every day outside from dawn until dusk.

The particular ruins featured there, are located at another one of my favourite walking places.     1. I haven’t seen the satellite pictures, but it doesn’t surprise me at all. As much as I love the dry weather, I’m worried about its impact on nature, especially those that normally inhabit marshlands and wetlands. I can remember long, hot summers in the past, but never ones that didn’t include frequent thunderstorms and downpours, too. It’s all a bit odd.
