#Meditation for the Day (02): Components of the Whole

Where is your main focus?
the tree tops, or the sky beyond;
the songs of individual birds, or the bird orchestra;
the breeze on your skin, or the rustling of leaves in the trees;
the aroma of last year’s detritus, or of this year’s verdancy;
the path’s jagged flints, or its earthen firmness.

Or do you focus on the whole?
as a backcloth for your thoughts, or an escape from your thoughts;
as a place of solitude, or a place to share;
as a place to raise your pulse, or a place to lower your pulse;
as a place to seek creative inspiration, or simply a place to be,
as a place from which to zone in, or to zone out.

Who cares to analyse it?
There’s you, there’s me, there’s the woodland,
and it’s one big miracle that we’re all still here,
considering…

  1. Very nice Sarah. I like that you leave it open to choice x

    • Thanks Shey 🙂 I prefer to leave things open to choice, as philosophising can easily slip into preaching, and that’s a very slipperly slope indeed! Who am I to tell people what they should think, when I’m not sure what I think myself quite a lot of the time? 😉 xxxxxxx

  2. Considering indeed, my dear friend. It’s good to see current work by you. You have been missed. I love the woods…..there I am closest to all that matters….thank you for the reminder.

    • I’m going through a “funny” both emotionally and physically — maybe spiritually, too — but am slowly coming out the other side. The woods are a very healing place to be, and the garden, especially in the beautiful sunshine. Having had my dose of woods and garden today, this afternoon (BST), I’m blog-visiting and will soon be over to yours.

  3. Lovely Sarah, serene, but challenging, I’ll see you in the woodland…
