#Meditation for the Day (01) : How Not To Keel Over

Any attempts to outrun the world are futile
Stop
Sit
Slowly exhale and empty your lungs
Slowly inhale through your nose for count of four
Hold your breath for slow count of four
Slowly exhale through your mouth for count of four
Repeat sequence until calm
Stand
Walk
Any attempts to outrun the world are futile

  1. My biggest problem, as a young man, was trying to control the world. Talk about futile!!! And then I tried to outrun myself, another lesson in futility. I’ve spent a great amount of time running in place. Now I follow your advice. I flow, not run, and suddenly life is good.

wishing you a brilliant day, my talented and insightful friend!

    1. I try to follow my advice, but am quite bad at driving myself too hard and setting near-impossible targets for achieving writing goals. When I get writer’s block, even about penning a haiku, then I know it’s time to take some deep breaths and go do something else for a while, like gardening or sitting reading or ironing (Yes, I enjoy ironing — it is very relaxing).

Now to go and plant some seeds in my garden and think of the lovely colourful flowers they will yield — ones to attract butterflies and bees, of course ๐Ÿ™‚

Wishing you a brilliant day, too, my good friend, and hoping that the sun is shining as brightly on your side of the Pond!

  2. Excellent advice, Sarah…. she says as she breathes deep, coughs, gasps, exhales… caught a bloody cold out of nowhere! Blaming my trying to keep up with my world…

    1. Try taking the herb Astragalus. It might help clear the cold up quicker, Dale. I so hate colds. Poor you. Such wretchedness. If you feel up to it, Rochelle and I are thinking of having a Skyping session on Friday. Would be wonderful if you could join us. It’s not like we can catch your cold ๐Ÿ˜‰ Hope you recover soon x

      1. Have never heard of it! If I can get my butt up, I’ll go for a drive to the “Naturiste” store…
And I loathe being sick when it’s nice out and I’m scheduled to work after so much time off…

      2. Astragalus is a Chinese herb that stimulates the immune system. It can be used to prevent or treat infections. Last year, I took it once daily as a preventative from mid-November to the end of December, as this is usually my worse time for catching colds. It’s fine to take several times daily during a cold (depending upon the dose it comes in). It is also good for stress, and I’m reckoning you’ve had a lot of that lately!

      3. Excellent. I’ll check out times, as we’re on BST now, so an hour further ahead than before. It will be my afternoon and your morning as usual, I know as much as that! Will liaise…

    1. It is very hard to slow down. One of my problems is that I try to pack in as much in a day as I used to do twenty years and then get frustrated with myself for daring to grow older!

  3. Dear Sarah,

This is brilliant. I might have to print it out, hang it on my wall, and go for a read three times a day. Seriously. We can’t outrun the world, can we? Love the way you repeated the line…very effective.

    Shalom,

    Rochelle

    1. Dear Rochelle,

I think I should pin it to my own wall, and am glad you like it enough to pin to your wall.

It’s sunny outside today, so I’m going outside this afternoon to some gardening, while breathing in deep on the lovely clear air ๐Ÿ™‚

      All best wishes,
      Sarah
