#Tanka 35 — Lakeside Etiquette

Greedy beaks rattle,
expectant of bread crust treats.
A duck brawl ensues.
Don’t these humans know the rule,
to bring food for the natives?

  1. I enjoy your work. This is a playful piece, an everyday occurrence which only gains importance through the eyes of a talented observer. Well done, my friend, and Happy Monday to you.

    1. Thank you, Bill, my friend. You always make me smile with your comments that are always so full of encouragement. Those ducks wouldn’t let me write a haiku today. They had too much to say about the subject in hand! Happy Monday to you, too 🙂

    1. Ducks are like children with pizza. They know that it’s bad for them, but that’s part of its attraction! …not that ducks are gifted with such powers of reasoning and rebelliousness 🙂

      1. When we go mountain climbing in Glencoe, I always snaffle bread from the Clachaig, where we stay, on the day we go home. It is one of these things where we do the wind down at the Lochan and feed the ducks. Last few times they’ve sniffed their beaks at it. This robin appeared from the trees and took the bread instead after their snotterships refused. Still love these ducks though. xx

      2. Either those Lochan ducks were super-intelligent and knew that bread wasn’t that good for them, or they had already stuffed their beaks with the stuff before you arrived and were suffering from bellyache! xxxxxxxxxxx
