Dreaming of a yellow teapot and awaking to publication day #urban fantasy

yellow teapot

Still pinching myself to check that I’m awake, but somehow I’ve managed to achieve publication of my urban fantasy novel Desiccation. It is now available to buy in Kindle or Paperback format at Amazon.

You may ask what a yellow teapot has to do with publication day. Anybody into dream analysis around here? Personally, I think it indicates that writing, editing, formatting, and publishing can take you to the brink of insanity. It also indicates that I watch too much Nordic Noir on television, not that I know if the Scandinavians are into yellow teapots.

In my dream, I was inside a giant yellow teapot manoeuvring it into a parking space outside a golf club. Once I’d parked it, I climbed out of its top (the equivalent of a sunshine roof) and magicked the teapot down to normal size, after which I proceeded into the golf club to search people’s coat pockets as part of a covert operation to solve a crime.

Well there you are. If you think my yellow teapot dream is weird, I can assure you it’s nothing compared to some of the weirdness in Desiccation.

    1. Thanks so much, Sylvia 🙂 I’m too tired to jump up and down with excitement today, but might tomorrow! It has seemed such a long journey to get to this point. The best thing for me today and tomorrow is to take time out to reflect like your friend Mr Heron, then my batteries will be recharged for Monday!

  1. Or it could be the irrepressible optimism and can-do spirit of ‘I’m a little teapot’! [No, I don’t know what teapots symbolize in dreams.]
On another note . . . Woo-hoo! I’m so excited to see that Desiccation has come to fruition for you, Sarah. Many good wishes for you and your book; I’d love to have you ‘guest’ on the blog and/or interview you sometime soon. 🙂

    1. Thanks, Leigh, for that offer of guesting on your blog. An interview would be good, so perhaps send me some questions and then I’ll answer them when I can, although probably not until after Dec 25th!
If you email me your postal address, I will send you a complimentary copy of my book, as a thank you for beta reading. Hopefully I can get Create Space or Amazon.com to mail you one direct, or it will take forever to arrive from the UK.

      1. No worries. Whenever you’re able to drop by is fine for me. I’ve been creating some questions in my mind already. I’ll e-mail you some stuff in the next few days. I’ll bet you’re super-busy, what with the book release and Christmas. Are you doing/planning a lot of caroling? Anyway, I’ll let you go. Best wishes to you and yours!

    1. You’ve so cheered me up with your comment. After the excitement of publication day, I’d been feeling that my “baby” had disappeared into the ether, so am glad it’s keeping you up beyond your bedtime! I’m still having to sort out loose ends, mostly to do with the Amazon product page. Am still not happy with my book description and need to give it more thought. Have done my page for Author Central today, which is some progress.

  2. And I thought I had weird dreams! Oh Sarah, you do make me smile, in the best possible way. I think it means you do indeed have magic powers…in more ways than one 😉 But seriously, I am so very delighted for you with the news of your long-awaited publication of Desiccation. I am so very proud of you, and really am looking forward to reading it. Wishing you so many congratulations and sending huge squeezing hugs while jumping for joy… 🙂 xxxx

    1. The yellow teapot dream isn’t half as strange as my dream about a chavette living in a mansion with a 12-foot high gate painted pink with red hearts on it. Or the dream about a squawking soprano showing off too much with a descant, with dire consequences! Hee, hee, hee.
Thank you, dearest Sherri, for your lovely words of encouragement and all those congratulatory squeezing hugs 🙂 xxxxxx

  3. Reblogged this on A View From My Summerhouse and commented:
This time last year, I was both humbled and thrilled when dear friend Sarah Potter invited me to write a short story as a guest post. As a mostly non-fiction writer, I was way out of my comfort zone, but the encouragement she gave me, and still does, is something I will never forget. And now it’s my turn to encourage her, for after years of harbouring her dream of book publication, I’m absolutely delighted to share with you, dear friends, the news that Sarah’s wish has come true – but only because of months of sheer hard work and learning how to self-publish from scratch, having never ventured down such a path before. I am immensly proud of her. Desiccation, a young adult, urban fantasy novel, the story of which takes place in the late 60s at an all-girl’s private school, looks to make for a gripping, hugely entertaining read. What a fantastic cover too! I’ll post as usual this week before winding down for Christmas, but I had to share Sarah’s fantastic news with you first, and I’m sure you’ll join me in wishing her many congratulations on this incredible and exciting accomplishment and wish her every success with her book launch.

  4. Congratulations on your first published novel, Sarah. I’m over here from Sherri’s blog. I guess I’ll be drinking lots and lots of tea as I make the same journey as you next year (hopefully).

    Merry Christmas.

    1. Thank you very much, Hugh. Yes, tea is quite essential component of that journey. Best of luck with your novel. It’s hard work but there’s a real sense of achievement when you get there, although then there’s the marketing so your product reaches its audience. I have my thinking cap on just now.
      Merry Christmas to you, too.

  5. Saw you over at Sherri’s “A View From my Summerhouse.” As someone who has similar aspirations, I wanted to pop over and offer a hearty congratulations and a “Way to to go!!” – quite the accomplishment! I wish you and your reading audience and abundance of joy as a result of your hard work!

    1. Thank you, Roy. I’m thrilled you’re going to give it a try 🙂
I’ve often gone outside of my comfort zone with reading and been pleasantly surprised, so let’s hope that happens for you with my novel!

  6. Finished! Enjoyable, surprising and refreshing read! Got home this afternoon and had to read on from where I left off last night. Posted a review on Amazon. Well deserved indeed Sarah!

    1. Thank you, Charli. What better to celebrate a book publication than with tea poured from a sunny yellow teapot. In fact, the bottom half of what looks like a standard teapot is a large yellow teacup that the flat-bottomed pot sits on. It’s very nifty.
