Still pinching myself to check that I’m awake, but somehow I’ve managed to achieve publication of my urban fantasy novel Desiccation. It is now available to buy in Kindle or Paperback format at Amazon.

You may ask what a yellow teapot has to do with publication day. Anybody into dream analysis around here? Personally, I think it indicates that writing, editing, formatting, and publishing can take you to the brink of insanity. It also indicates that I watch too much Nordic Noir on television, not that I know if the Scandinavians are into yellow teapots.

In my dream, I was inside a giant yellow teapot manoeuvring it into a parking space outside a golf club. Once I’d parked it, I climbed out of its top (the equivalent of a sunshine roof) and magicked the teapot down to normal size, after which I proceeded into the golf club to search people’s coat pockets as part of a covert operation to solve a crime.

Well there you are. If you think my yellow teapot dream is weird, I can assure you it’s nothing compared to some of the weirdness in Desiccation.

    1. Thanks so much, Sylvia 🙂 I’m too tired to jump up and down with excitement today, but might tomorrow! It has seemed such a long journey to get to this point. The best thing for me today and tomorrow is to take time out to reflect like your friend Mr Heron, then my batteries will be recharged for Monday!

    1. Thanks, Leigh, for that offer of guesting on your blog. An interview would be good, so perhaps send me some questions and then I’ll answer them when I can, although probably not until after Dec 25th!

After the excitement of publication day, I’d been feeling that my “baby” had disappeared into the ether, so am glad it’s keeping you up beyond your bedtime! I’m still having to sort out loose ends, mostly to do with the Amazon product page. Am still not happy with my book description and need to give it more thought. Have done my page for Author Central today, which is some progress.

    1. The yellow teapot dream isn’t half as strange as my dream about a chavette living in a mansion with a 12-foot high gate painted pink with red hearts on it. Or the dream about a squawking soprano showing off too much with a descant, with dire consequences! Hee, hee, hee.

    This time last year, I was both humbled and thrilled when dear friend Sarah Potter invited me to write a short story as a guest post. As a mostly non-fiction writer, I was way out of my comfort zone, but the encouragement she gave me, and still does, is something I will never forget. Desiccation, a young adult, urban fantasy novel, the story of which takes place in the late 60s at an all-girl’s private school, looks to make for a gripping, hugely entertaining read. It’s hard work but there’s a real sense of achievement when you get there, although then there’s the marketing so your product reaches its audience. I have my thinking cap on just now.

    1. Thank you, Charli. What better to celebrate a book publication than with tea poured from a sunny yellow teapot. In fact, the bottom half of what looks like a standard teapot is a large yellow teacup that the flat-bottomed pot sits on. It’s very nifty.
