A Child’s Eye View — The Pond

Aware that I haven’t posted much in the last week or two, I thought to delight you with this busy picture of pond life that I drew for my Nature Study homework at the age of eight.

Working on a story set in a school — albeit a senior school — has made me think back to my own studies as a child. At primary school, Nature Study and Art were my two favourite subjects. The main character in my novel, Desiccation,  is a 15-year-old science scholarship girl who discovers that not everything in the universe runs according to the textbook.

I am nearly there with publishing, but it’s taking longer than I expected. First I took a short break to visit family in the Isle of Wight. Then I had flu. After that, in my attempt to catch up with the final proofing and corrections of my novel, I gave myself a frozen shoulder by spending too much time on the computer. But I’m on the mend now, thanks to homeopathy and qigong exercises.

Will return to regular posting, plus visiting everyone’s wonderful blogs, as soon as possible.

  2. Oh Sarah, I love your drawing, it’s so sweet and so well done, you were/are quite the artist! So sorry though to hear of your frozen shoulder, they are so painful, like you and Sylvia I’ve had it too. This sitting at the computer too long is not good for our health I’m discovering!     1. Dearest Sherri, thank you. I’m glad you love my old drawing. Darned frozen shoulder. I just don’t need it just now. Good news, my singing voice returned yesterday, after three weeks of it not working, so not all is bad. I hope you are recovering from your bruises and the shock of your car accident, and that you’ve managed to sort out the replacement car. Thinking of you. An email will appear eventually, but I have to do family stuff tomorrow, which means signing off the internet for some serious work now for the rest of the day. Have a lovely weekend xxxxx

      1. Dearest Sarah, that’s great news about your singing voice, just hope your shoulder is feeling a little better now and you’re enjoying a lovely family weekend.     1. Thanks, David 🙂 I have many more of my old school books, so plenty of pictures to post. My mother had kept them and handed them to me recently. Some of the stuff I wrote in English and in History makes amusing reading.
      I’m sort of back blogging but not properly, as I’m desperately trying to publish my novel before I miss all those potential Christmas shoppers finding me! I know that ebook downloads can be made at the last moment, but paperbacks need ordering in advance and I have some buyers waiting. Yay 🙂

    1. Lilith, lovely to hear from you after all this time. I’m glad you liked my old piece of artwork from many decades ago! By the way, today my book has become available to buy in both Kindle and paperback formats, although the two versions are not yet married up on Amazon, so they appear on two separate product pages. Hope you enjoy reading my rather eccentric novel 🙂

      1. hi Sarah, yes I have been on computer very little recently…my garden is looking great tho! And I have done much reading. And some traveling to Vienna and Hungary with my Daughter. I haven’t blogged for ages, but I am determined to put one online soon. I love eccentric novels so am going to order yours now it’s on Amazon. Hope your Christmas is lovely. Have you read Carrie Rubin’s book, Desication? She has a blog too, and is very funny.

  5. oops…sorry for the error in my comment…i had written down name of Carrie’s book ‘Eating Bull’ and your book ‘Desication’ on my list to order, and wrote ‘Desication’ as her book on my comments.. Can’t see how I can edit my comment. Feel free to take it down so it doesn’t confuse people…

    1. I have often made errors in comments on people’s blogs, then had to explain myself in a follow-up comment, so no need to worry. I will check out Carrie’s book. My book is spelled ‘Desiccation’. You may not find it in a search on Amazon otherwise. It is a confusing word to spell, I know!
