Music Passion

My music passion for August is “Any Moment” — sung here by Robert Westenberg (as Cinderella’s Prince) and Joanna Gleason (as the Baker’s Wife). This song is from the musical “Into the Woods” — music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. The  story is from a book by James Lapine, the synopsis of which you can read at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Into_the_Woods. James Lapine also directed the original production, first debuted at the Old Globe Theatre in 1986 and premiered on Broadway in 1987.

When I saw the subject of this month’s music passion, I knew the challenge to come up with my usual medieval or renaissance song would be impossible, as people then had a completely different concept of moment to the one we have now. Instead, I chose to time-travel to 1986 for thoroughly sentimental reasons, as it was the year my son was born.

    • You might like “Moments in the Moonlight” – Frank Sinatra. It’s one of his earliest recordings from 1940. I think it’s the sort of thing you like, and it was my second choice out of the moments selection I found.
