A tanka in honour of my new literary muse

Serenity, peace,
a figurative sculpture
where quiet words float.
Writer’s literary muse
watching over her shoulder.

My daughter, Vanessa, gave this beautiful sculpture to me as a Mother’s Day gift. She said it was my new literary muse to stand on my desk next to me while I’m writing.

  1. Hi Sarah,
It is beautiful, and the thoughtfulness and love and support that brought it to you is even more precious. I have a rather crude computer topper that is a handmade Fimo sculpture made for me by my son when he was about ten. It is his interpretation of an alien creature–the Caretaker–from an unpublished YA sci-fi novel of mine, and it is as precious to me as any Rodin!

    1. Yes, she is a gracious muse. Whichever way you view her from, she speaks to you in a different way. I sense so much positive and calming energy coming off her, although in reality she’s innanimate. I guess that’s a reflection of the true artistry of her creator.

  2. Hi Sarah,

Long time no speak but I think of you sometimes! It’s so special when one’s children give something so thoughtful as your beautiful literary muse. I hope she is working well for you. Jenny

    1. My daughter — for all her bounce and chaos at times — often thinks up sweet gifts. And now she has children of her own, she appreciates the need for times of quietness and reflection.
