Sarah Potter Writes

Pursued by the Muses of prose and poetry

Music Passion

My music passion for November is “Senhora del Mondo” (Lady of the World), a sixteenth-century renaissance song by an anonymous Portuguese composer, and sung here most hauntingly by the French countertenor, Gerard Lesne.

Many thanks to, Carol, for choosing “World” as this month’s theme http://abcofspiritalk.wordpress.com/2012/11/02/music-passion-allaboutlemon-3/

Also, many thanks, as usual, to Dolly, for hosting this well-loved musical extravaganza. To join in all the fun, do check out http://allaboutlemon.com/music-passion/

The “world” theme sent me on a wonderful voyage of discovery from modern-day, back through the seventies and sixties, and further to my beloved early music periods of renaissance and medieval. I discovered no less than seven songs which I would like to sing myself, but, of course, will possibly have difficulty sourcing them/interpreting the notation. They are all written for countertenor or contralto, but that won’t stop me.

    • Thank you, jaycee. I have a thing for haunting melodies. If given a listening choice between music in a major or minor key, I’ll tend towards the latter–either that, or something written in the modal style.

      • Have to admit, my favourite pieces of music, be it classical or modern are the ones in a minor key.
It just pulls the soul to a different place.
